The thin client refers to a user terminal whose functions are limited to the presentation of webpage displays. It is contrasted to the thick client of client-server architectures. In the latter case, the client terminal takes on part of the application processing. The thin client requires less maintenance than the thick client since it does not have to be updated with each new version of the software. The only required component is a web browser.
