Total Internet Radio and Music

Press release
Radio & Music : 5 million additional fans in a year

In partnership with Médiamétrie, GESTE publishes Total Internet Radio and Music, which evaluates the total audience (computer, mobile telephone, tablet) for radio and music websites and apps, through the Médiamétrie Total Internet measurement.

In September 2019, 40.1 million web users visited at least one Radio/Music website or app, i.e. 5 million more users than in September 2018. That figure equated to 64.1% of the French population aged 2 years and over, compared to 56.3% a year ago, i.e. an additional 7.7 per cent coverage.

The coverage of 15 to 24-year olds saw the highest growth: 86.6% of that age group now visit Radio and Music websites and apps each month – an increase of 16.8 per cent on last year. Next highest were the 25 to 34-year olds (85.9% of whom are monthly visitors, up 11.2 per cent), followed by the 65-year olds and over group (49.5% of whom are monthly visitors, up by 10.3 per cent).

According to Bertrand Krug, Director of Médiamétrie’s Internet Department:

Audio consumption is becoming increasingly mobile: 84.1% of daily visitors to Radio/Music brands are listening on their smartphone, compared to 74.5% a year ago. This near 10 per cent growth is much greater than the growth in overall mobile daily coverage: +4 per cent in the last year. Young internet users are at the forefront: each day, 97.1% of 11 to 24-year olds who visit Radio & Music brands use their mobile for this purpose.

According to Marianne le Vavasseur, Co-president of GESTE Music & Radio Commission:

"The strong growth in the audience for Radio & Music stakeholders over the past year seems to underscore the growing public interest in audio content. The development of new formats and new ways of accessing audio content signal the potential for continued growth in the coming months.”
