3rd quarter of 2018 - 37,7 million web users have made online purchases

In France, 861,000 more online shoppers than in the 3rd quarter of 2017

According to the Médiamétrie Internet Usage Observatory for the 3rd quarter of 2018, 37.7 million web users have made online purchases, which is 87.6% of them. That is 861,000 more online shoppers than a year ago.

For Jamila Yahia-Messaoud, Director of Médiamétrie’s Consumer Department : “today, almost nine out of 10 web users make purchases on the internet and almost all of them (98%) claim to be satisfied with their experience. They appreciate the extensive offers that are regularly updated, the quality of after-sales services and the tailored delivery services which meet their needs.

Marc Lolivier, Managing Director of FEVAD, adds : “Internet shopping has become a habit for the French : the proportion of people aged 65 and older who shop online is increasing almost as quickly as amongst 18-24 year olds (+10 points and +11 points respectively compared with last year). It is now even the case that more than eight out of 10 retired people are online shoppers (12 points more than in 2017), which proves that online shopping crosses the generations.

 

Each quarter, Médiamétrie //NetRatings and FEVAD publish the audience ranking for the 15 leading e-commerce websites, all sectors combined, on computers, mobiles and tablets. This quarterly ranking allows us to track changes in the audience of France’s main retail websites, both in terms of the number of visitors and the percentage of the French population over the relevant period.
