Every day, in France, 5 million viewers watch TV programmes online – a 28% increase in 2 years

Every day, 5 million individuals aged 4 years and older watch live or catch-up TV programmes online (computer, mobile phone, tablet) – 28% more than 2 years ago. This rise is supported by mobility: the share of the population watching TV on their mobile phones has exactly doubled in 2 years.

This, among other things, was shown by the latest wave of the Global TV study conducted from April to June 2018.

 

Nearly 2 million French people watch TV solely on a computer, a mobile or a tablet

Out of the 5 million who watch TV online daily, 3 million also sit in front of their TV set, while nearly 2 million solely use a computer, mobile or tablet.

These 2 million exclusively online viewers add to the 42.7 million daily TV screen viewers.

65% of the time spent watching TV programmes is devoted to watching them live. And to access these TV programmes, the French prefer TV channel sites and apps. They represent nearly half (46.8%) of the time spent watching TV content online. OTT TV services (such as Molotov or myCANAL) are also widely used. They concentrate over one-quarter (26.4%) of the time spent watching TV programmes online.

3 million French people aged 15 and older who are both TV viewers and SVoD users on a daily basis

A growing share of the French watch SVoD content on top of their TV viewing in a single day. A year ago, they were at 2.6%; now they represent 5.6% of those aged 15 and older. As a result, every day 3 million individuals watch TV and SVoD content, taking all screens into account. They average 31 years of age.
