Global Radio - January-March 2021 wave

Press release
Each day, 8 million people listen to the radio on digital devices

Over 40 million French people aged 13 years and older listen to the radio every day.
This audience, which is measured in the 126 000 Radio study, takes into account all listening devices, both those dedicated to radio and digital devices. The Global Radio module of the 126 000 Radio study can be used to analyse digital radio listening behaviour.

Radio is strengthening its presence on digital media: every day, 15.1% of the population listens to the radio on a digital device, or 8.3 million daily listeners (nearly 400,000 more listeners in 1 year).

Mobile phones were still the top digital device used to listen to the radio, with 4.7 million people using this method every day, which represents more than 270,000 listeners gained in 1 year. Radio audiences also continue to grow on voice-controlled speakers, which attract more than 1 million listeners every day (more than 260,000 additional listeners in one year).

Listening to the radio on digital media is particularly popular among 25-49 year olds (19.8% of them listen to the radio on digital media), people in the upper SPCs (23.1%) and residents of the Greater Paris Region (20.5%).

On digital devices, the listening time was 2 hours 18 mins on average per day and per listener.

The share of digital media in radio listening is increasing significantly: it now accounts for 17.4% of total listening volume, compared to 15.0% last year.
